About the northern centre for adult psychology
Trusted adult assessments and therapy with meaningful connections.
Understanding adults, empowering minds & transforming lives
Northern Centre for Adult Psychology (NCAP) was founded by Amanda Abel, building on over a decade of experience leading the Northern Centre for Child Development. Through her work with children, families, and parents, Amanda recognised that many adults also need compassionate, evidence-based support - whether to explore neurodivergence or address personal mental health challenges. In response, Amanda established NCAP to provide adults with the same high-quality care, thoughtful assessment, and therapy that her team has offered children and families since 2012.
Meet the clinicians
Christine Flavel
Principal Psychologist | Board Approved Supervisor
Christine supports individuals to better understand their mental health, navigate life transitions, and gain insight into how their brain works — including Autistic and ADHD neurotypes. She conducts psychoeducational and diagnostic assessments, primarily for ADHD and learning-related difficulties, and offers consultations to explore concerns and assessment suitability.
Strengths-Based, Person-Centred Care
Her approach is strengths-based, integrating practical psychoeducation with real-world strategies. Christine draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches to help clients clarify goals and develop effective coping skills. Transforming challenges into understanding
At NCAP, we are committed to helping adults better understand themselves and their experiences. Many reach adulthood feeling misunderstood, exhausted, or unsure why life feels harder than it does for others. Some have succeeded outwardly while privately struggling with anxiety, burnout, or disconnection. Our assessments and therapy transform confusion into clarity and insight into direction.
Our mission
We empower adults to make sense of their minds and lives through thoughtful assessment and therapy — providing long-awaited answers and meaningful guidance. We imagine a world where:
